Badlapur: The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation's Barvi Dam, a crucial water source for Thane district, was at 89% capacity by Sunday morning. The dam's level surged by seven percent in just 24 hours due to Saturday's heavy rains, which brought about 200 mm of precipitation in the area. This increase pushed the dam’s water level from 82% to 89%, leading to a sense of satisfaction.
The Barvi Dam, managed by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, supplies water to most municipalities and industrial estates in Thane district. There is widespread hope that the dam will reach full capacity during the monsoon season, ensuring a steady water supply for both industrial and drinking needs throughout the year.
Earlier this year, the dam's water level had dropped to 25% due to a hot summer. Despite some improvement from June's rains, the water levels were still unsatisfactory. However, continuous rainfall in July has significantly boosted the dam’s water levels. Initially, the dam's water storage increased gradually, but the heavy rains during the last week of July caused a marked rise. Between July 23 and July 26, the water level surged from 51% to 68% due to intense rainfall. This rapid increase was followed by a steadier rise in water levels. On Saturday, approximately 200 mm of rain fell in the Barvi Dam area, leading to a swift increase in the dam’s water level.
